Latest push for E15

The Renewable Fuels Association is running full-page newspaper ads across six competitive states as it tries to leverage voter concerns around affordability to push an industry priority, Jacob reports. The ads ran over the weekend in 14 major papers including the Des Moines Register, The Minnesota Star Tribune and The Kansas City Star. The trade group is urging voters to call on candidates to support the year-round sale of E15 fuel, which they say would help ease high gas prices.
The House passed a bipartisan bill that would allow for the year-round sale of E15 in May, but the Senate has yet to take it up amid an ongoing fight between competing small oil refinery and agricultural special interests. The ethanol industry is now eyeing the lame-duck session as its best shot at getting the legislation across the finish line this year. Vulnerable Republicans like Iowa Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn have also leaned into voters’ concerns about gas prices to push for the year-round sale of E15 in recent weeks.
