EPA: 8 new SRE petitions filed, 25 SRE petitions now pending

The U.S. EPA on Dec. 18 released new data showing eight new small refinery exemption (SRE) petitions have been filed under the Renewable Fuel Standard in the past month. A total of 25 SRE petitions are now pending, up from 17 that were pending as of mid-November.
All eight newly filed SRE petitions were filed for RFS compliance year 2025. CHS Laurel Refinery on Dec. 5 filed an SRE petition seeking a waiver of 2025 blending obligations for its facility in Laurel, Montana. Various affiliates of HF Sinclair on Dec. 15 filed five SRE petitions seeking waivers of the 2025 RFS blending obligations for refineries located in Woods Cross, Utah; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sinclair, Wyoming; Casper, Wyoming; and Artesia, New Mexico. Ergon Refining and Ergon-West Virginia on Dec. 16 filed SRE petitions seeking waivers of 2025 blending obligations for their respective facilities in Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Newell, West Virginia.
