USDA: June corn use for ethanol production up over last year

Total corn consumed for alcohol and other uses was 490 million bushels in June, down 4 percent when compared to May, but up 2 percent when compared to June 2016. Corn consumed for fuel alcohol reached 437 million bushels in June, down 3 percent from May, but up 2 percent from June 2016. Corn consumed for dry milling fuel production was 89.5 percent, with 10.5 percent consumed for wet milling fuel production.
According to the USDA, 4.3 million hundredweight (cwt) (240,688 tons) of sorghum was also consumed at dry mills for fuel ethanol production, down from 6.91 million cwt in May and 5.98 million cwt in June 2016.
At dry mills, condensed distillers solubles production reached 125,337 tons in June, down from 146,225 tons in May and 132,798 tons in June of last year. Corn oil production reached 145,345 tons in June, down from 148,544 tons in May, but up from 130,964 tons in June 2016. Distillers dried grains production reached 471,492 tons, up from 435,640 tons in May and 392,438 tons in June of the previous year. Distillers dried grains with solubles production reached 1.82 million tons, down from 1.91 million tons in May and 1.89 million tons in June 2016. Distillers wet grains production reached 1.25 million tons, down from 1.36 million tons in May and 1.22 million tons in June 2016. Modified distillers wet grains production reached 424,553 tons in June, down from 460,432 tons in May, but up from 360,904 tons in June of the previous year.
At well mills, corn germ meal production reached 59,384 tons, down from 63,302 tons in May, but up from 58,121 tons in June 2016. Corn gluten feed production reached 341,215 tons in June, up slightly from 341,167 tons in May and 331,812 tons in June of last year. Corn gluten meal production reached 86,806 tons in June, down from 91,895 tons in May, but up from 84,034 tons in June 2016. Wet corn gluten feed production reached 297,780 tons, down from 313,876 tons in May and 312,497 tons in June 2016.
At dry and wet mill plants, carbon dioxide captured reached 217,863 tons in June, up from 201,035 tons in May, but down from 228,221 tons in June 2016.
