Production of biomass-based diesel rose 9.46 million gallons in May compared with April, US Environmental Protection Agency data showed Monday.
Biodiesel production reached 203.8 million gallons in May, rising 4.87% from April. May 2016 production was 34.34 million gallons, or 20.27%, higher than May 2015 production.
Monthly biodiesel production was higher than its 2015 counterpart for the fifth consecutive month.
With a 1.9 billion-gallon blending mandate under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard, biodiesel producers have been creating the biofuel at record levels in 2016.
The EPA data also showed an increase in D4 RIN generation in May.
More than 312 million biodiesel RINs were generated in May, an increase of 13 million RINs from April.
May 2016 RIN generation far surpassed that of February 2015 by 52 million RINs.
