UNICA reports increased ethanol sales in late August

According to UNICA, plants in the south-central region of Brazil processed 28.91 tons of sugarcane during the second half of August, up slightly from the 28.60 million tons processed during the same period of last year.
Approximately 46.95 percent of the sugarcane processed during the second half of August was used to manufacture sugar, down when compared to the previous four two-week periods.
Ethanol production during the second half of August was up 3.15 percent, with 1.77 billion liters (467.58 million gallons) manufactured, including 749.44 million liters of anhydrous ethanol and 1.02 billion liters of hydrous ethanol.
From the beginning of the current season through Aug. 1, 381.52 million tons of sugarcane have been processed, down 3.62 percent when compared to the same period of the previous harvest. Ethanol production has reached 15.29 billion gallons so far this harvest, with sugar production reaching 23.26 million tons.
Producers in the south-central region of Brazil sold 1.27 billion liters of ethanol during the second half of August, with 116.63 million liters exported and 1.16 billion liters sold into the domestic market. Domestic ethanol sales were up approximately 11.77 percent when compared to the volume sold during the first half of August.
Of the domestic sales, 433.93 million liters were anhydrous ethanol, up 11.10 percent when compared to the first half of the month, while 722.41 million liters were hydrous, up 12.17 percent when compared to the first two weeks of August.
For the entire month of August, UNICA reported sales of ethanol in the south-central region reached 2.39 billion liters, including 2.19 billion liters that were sold domestically. Of that volume, 1.37 billion liters were hydrous ethanol.
