The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Friday sent its proposed renewable fuel volume standards for 2017 and biodiesel volumes for 2018 to the White House’s Office of Management and Budget for review.

The Clean Air Act requires EPA to issue annual volume requirements under the Renewable Fuel Standard by Nov. 30 of the year before the year in which the standards would apply. For biodiesel, the statute requires that applicable volumes be set no later than 14 months before the year in which they would take effect.

OMB is required to review all significant regulations issued by executive agencies.

A renewable fuel industry source estimated that the OMB review will likely take about 30 days to complete, meaning that EPA could issues its proposed volumes for public comment sometime at the end of May.
