(South Sioux City, NE)   Over 300 shareholders attended the 10th annual shareholders meeting of Siouxland Ethanol, LLC held in South Sioux City, NE on March 7. The record crowd may have been there to hear about the successful year that Siouxland Ethanol just had. More than likely, they were in attendance to hear the keynote speaker, Sen. Tom Daschle, former Senate Majority Leader from South Dakota who now works as a Washington, DC lobbyist. Daschle was instrumental in creating and securing passage of the Clean Air Act amendments in 1990 requiring ethanol to be blended and sold to combat the nation’s smog, giving a jump start to the ethanol industry and was also part of the Lugar-Daschle legislation in 2000 that established the Renewable Fuels Standard which was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2005, both catalytic events that forever changed the ethanol industry.

“I am hopeful that 2017 will be another year where transformational change will occur within the ethanol industry. This is a dynamic industry and we need to build on the things in the past,” Daschle said during his speech. “We need to work collaboratively to achieve future growth in the ethanol industry and ensure clean air for all.”

Those in attendance also heard from Nick Bowdish, President and CEO of Siouxland Ethanol about the completion of the recent expansion which has resulted in an increase in production to 80 million gallons a year. Pam Miller, board chair for Siouxland Ethanol and Director of Industry and Investor Relations, shared information about efforts to work with auto technicians and retailers to support and promote higher levels of ethanol.

A special guest for the evening was Orrie Swayze from the Watertown, SD area. Swayze, a long time friend of Sen. Daschle, has been a proponent of the ethanol industry and has led efforts toward the usage of higher levels of ethanol, especially E30.
