Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has moved to take up the nomination of Joseph Goffman to lead EPA’s air office, which has been without a confirmed leader since the beginning of the administration.

Goffman is the most high-profile energy and environment nominee pending. Opposition from Republicans angry at agency rulemaking and Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) have delayed his approval.

“I’m pleased to see Joe Goffman’s nomination to lead EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation move one step closer to confirmation,” said Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Tom Carper (D-Del.) on social media. “This important leadership role has an outsized impact on our lives and Joe is the right person for the job!”

The Senate did set up a vote on Sara Hill, the former Cherokee Nation environmental official, to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
