RFA raises concerns over EPA report to Congress on impacts of RFS program

Officials with Renewable Fuels Association on Thursday raised concerns with a draft EPA report to Congress on the Renewable Fuel Standard, particularly its position on cropland expansion associated with the program. The report, released on Jan. 3 by EPA’s Office of Research and Development, is the third of three reports required by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.
Geoff Cooper, president and chief executive the ethanol industry group, said the agency report failed by viewing the impacts of the RFS and associated biofuel production volume increases “in a vacuum.” “The report fails to put its results in the proper context, draws from faulty and discredited analyses … and fails to make appropriate comparisons to the impacts of petroleum and other transportation fuels,” Cooper said in a statement.
