Several of the nation’s top biofuel and fuel retailer industry groups have asked the EPA to extend the comment period on a proposal to award Renewable Identification Number (RIN) credits for renewable power used in transportation by 60 days.

In a joint letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan, trade groups NATSO, NACS, SIGMA, and the Renewable Fuels Association said that stakeholders need more time to analyze implementation of the so-called “e-RIN” scheme before submissions are due Feb. 10. Expansion of the program to include electricity creates “extraordinarily complex, novel policy questions” with implications beyond the program, the groups said, which “necessitate lengthier consideration than the agency is currently permitting.”
