Thirteen GOP senators, led by Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomeysent a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan on Thursday urging him to waive or significantly reduce the renewable volume obligations under the Renewable Fuel Standard. In the letter, the senators cite declining demand for refined products and argue that because renewable fuels for the 2020 compliance year have already been produced and blended, a waiver presents “no risk of harm to the biofuels industry.”

The letter comes days after EPA finalized a rule extending the compliance deadlines for refiners to meet 2019 and 2020 obligations under the RFS.
