A group of Republican senators is formally seeking a meeting with President Biden to push him to adopt more pro-biofuel policies. The letter from nine senators in agriculture-heavy states asks Biden to direct his administration to undertake a series of policy changes, including formally declaring that biofuels like ethanol have significantly lower lifetime greenhouse gas emissions than their fossil fuel counterparts and approve more biofuels for use. “We seek an audience to discuss the tremendous opportunity that biofuels like ethanol and biodiesel present to bolster affordable American energy, underpin a strong agricultural economy, and immediately lower transportation emissions using the existing consumer vehicle fleet and fueling infrastructure,” the senators, led by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), wrote today. Unfortunately, the promise of homegrown biofuels and our agriculture sector appear to be woefully underrepresented in your administration’s energy, environmental, and transportation agenda.”
