REFINERS TO OBAMA — DON’T BACK OFF ON 2014 RFS LEVELS: Refiners are warning President Barack Obama not to back away from efforts to scale back the Renewable Fuel Standard requirements for blending ethanol into the nation’s gasoline supply. In a letter to the president today, 31 refining industry executives said that continuing along the RFS’s “statutory trajectory” could boost gasoline prices 26 cents a gallon by 2017. And the ongoing delay in releasing a final standard is a burden to refiners too, the letter says. “EPA is now 10 months late in finalizing the 2014 rule. If EPA raises the volume requirements, the supply chain is unable to retroactively generate additional compliance credits for the first nine months of 2014,” the letter says. That problem will only get worse with the expected delay of the 2015 rule, the letter says.
