OMB Schedules More Stakeholder Meetings on Final RFS Targets

The White House’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has scheduled at least six upcoming meetings to discuss EPA’s final 2014-2016 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2) targets, according to meeting records posted on OMB’s website.

According to the OMB website, the following meetings have been scheduled:
–Nov. 10, 3 p.m. ET, Valero Energy Corp.;
–Nov. 13, 10 a.m. ET, Fuels America;
–Nov. 17, 1 p.m. ET, National Biodiesel Board;
–Nov. 18, 4 p.m. ET, Renewable Fuels Association;
–Nov. 19, 11 a.m. ET, American Fuels & Petrochemical Manufacturers; and
–Nov. 24, 2 p.m. ET, Biogas Researchers Inc.

Many more stakeholder meetings are expected in the next few weeks. Meantime, as OPIS reported earlier this week, representatives from five refining companies and trade groups met with OMB on Nov. 5 to discuss the upcoming final rule.

OMB began interagency review of the final RFS targets on Oct. 30. As part of EPA’s 2014-2016 RFS2 proposal, issued on May 29, the agency aims to scale back conventional biofuel targets to account for concern surrounding the ethanol blend wall, while calling for a greater amount of second-generation biofuels. EPA is expected to finalize the rule by Nov. 30.
