Wis. congressman accuses gas stations of mislabeling E15

Amanda Peterka, E&E reporter  •    •  Posted May 13, 2015

A Wisconsin congressman is accusing gas stations of mislabeling gasoline containing 15 percent ethanol, or E15, in order to get around U.S. EPA regulations on gasoline volatility. In a letter yesterday to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) said that some gas retailers have labeled E15 as fuel for flex-fuel vehicles to avoid restrictions on selling E15. He included a photo of one gas station pump that appears to have mislabeled the fuel, as well as several questions for McCarthy about the requirements for E15 use. [ read more … ]

Producer coalition launches ad campaign

Amanda Peterka, E&E reporter  •    •  Posted May 13, 2015

Biofuel producers today launched a new advertising campaign in support of the renewable fuel standard. The campaign is aimed at policymakers in Washington, D.C., and will feature both television and digital ads. TV ads will air on morning news shows, Sunday morning talk shows and cable television in D.C., while digital ads will appear on inside-the-Beltway publications. Fuels America, a coalition of biofuel producers, said the six-figure ad campaign is meant to highlight the choices facing U.S. EPA as it considers a rulemaking to set biofuel mandates for 2014, 2015 and 2016. EPA is working toward a June 1 deadline to release proposed targets. [ read more … ]

Ethanol Industry Launches RFS Campaign

by Cindy Zimmerman, Domestic Fuel  •    •  Posted May 13, 2015

“The question is, is EPA going to – for the first time – waive the RFS if the oil industry refuses to distribute renewable fuels?” said Advanced Ethanol Council executive director Brooke Coleman. The campaign is in response to a letter from oil industry organizations to the EPA, and a responsive letter from biofuels industry leaders to the EPA last week. The letters agree on one thing: the EPA has a choice to make. Either choose to reward the oil industry for refusing to fulfill its obligations under the law, or choose to get the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) back on track by proposing Renewable Volume Obligation (RVO) levels that comport with the spirit and intent of the law. The EPA Faces a Crucial Choice

By Fuels America  •    •  Posted May 13, 2015

The oil industry and renewable fuel industry agree on one thing: the EPA has a big choice to make when it comes to the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The choice comes down to this — reward the oil industry for refusing to fulfill its obligations under the policy, or get the RFS back on track by following the spirit and intent of the law. Pacific Ethanol predicts 2015 will be a transformational year

By Erin Voegele, Ethanol Producer Magazine  •    •  Posted May 13, 2015

“2015 is expected to be a transformational year for Pacific Ethanol as we extend our market reach through our planned merger with Aventine Renewable Energy and amplify our destination market strategy with key facilities in origin markets,” Koehler added. “In addition, as the fifth largest producer and marketer of ethanol in the United States post-merger, I am confident we will have the resources and strategy in place to drive profitable growth for years to come.” [ read more … ]
