DOE to use executive power regardless of election outcome — Moniz

Touching on another issue that usually comes up after the elections, Moniz reiterated the need to extend the renewable tax credits and “to do it in the way there is predictability on all sides.” He also voiced support for expanding master limited partnerships to all energy companies, saying it could “provide an excellent new vehicle for attracting private capital into the future.” [ read more … ]

Italy to Require Advanced Biofuels in Gasoline and Diesel

Italy today became the first member of the European Union to mandate the use of renewable fuel made from inedible crops. The law requires that gasoline and diesel contain at least 1.2 percent advanced biofuel, starting in January 2018. By the turn of the decade that will increase to 1.6 percent and by 2022, a minimum of 2 percent biofuel must be blended. [ read more … ]

Appalachian Biofuels LLC will open in St. Paul; 40 new jobs expected

A new energy company — that hopes to hire former coal miners to fill its 40 jobs — is setting up shop in St. Paul. Appalachian Biofuels LLC, a company that will produce biodiesel, will invest some $3.5 million to establish its headquarters and production facility in Russell County. The facility is the former Bush building, near the McDonald’s restaurant, which has been vacant for some time. [ read more … ]
