Troubled cellulosic plant lays off workers

The nation’s first commercial cellulosic biofuel plant is laying off employees as it hangs precipitously on the edge of bankruptcy. KiOR Inc. had 183 employees as of Dec. 31, 2013, and is now down to 42 at the company’s idled facility in Columbus, Miss., according to a company spokeswoman. Former top Grassley aide nominated in Iowa House race

Iowa Republicans on Saturday named a former chief of staff to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) to be their standard-bearer in the tossup race to replace retiring Rep. Tom Latham (R). David Young prevailed on the fifth ballot at the Iowa state GOP convention, defeating state Sen.
