Thirty-one groups yesterday called on a House panel to approve a Republican bill that would require U.S. EPA to commission a study on the effects of the ethanol blend E15 before the agency allows the fuel to be used on the road. Their letter came ahead of a markup scheduled for this morning where the House Science, Space and Technology Committee will consider an amendment filed by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) that would greatly strip down the bill’s requirements. [ read more … ]

Archer Daniels Midland on Monday said it will close its ethanol plant in Walhalla, North Dakota, marking the first such closure for the agribusiness giant that last month announced the elimination of 1,000 jobs. The plant will permanently close in April, resulting in the loss of 61 jobs. ADM will supply its customers with ethanol and animal feed products from its six other ethanol plants in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota, company spokeswoman Jessie McKinney said.
