EPA Official Says Exceeding 10% Ethanol in Fuel Not Feasible

Lawmakers probed Grundler today about the EPA’s proposal last month to cut the requirements for ethanol, biodiesel and other biofuels. Some senators, such as Louisiana Republican David Vitter, said the shortfall in production of cellulosic ethanol shows that the entire requirement should be scrapped. Others, such as Nebraska Republican Deb Fischer criticized the EPA’s proposed cut of the ethanol mandate. [ read more … ]

Gen Wesley Clark Testifies on RFS

General Wesley K. Clark (Ret.), co-chair of Growth Energy’s Board of Directors testified on the numerous benefits of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today. One of his messages is that a reduction in the renewable fuel volume requirements of the RFS will move the biofuel industry backwards.

Vitter chided over ‘Obama phone’ attack

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) laid into Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) for taking up time a Senate committee hearing to question a witness about his support for a federal discounted phone service program. Former Gen. Wesley Clark was speaking before the committee about the federal Renewable Fuel Standard, but Vitter instead decided to press him on work he’s done to promote the phone program. USDA, Navy roll out ‘Farm to Fleet’ program

The Agriculture Department and Navy today announced a “Farm to Fleet” initiative that will, for the first time, make advanced biofuels available to the Navy as part of its regular procurement practices. Through the initiative, the Navy will seek to purchase jet engine and marine diesel fuels containing 10 to 50 percent advanced biofuels. USDA will assist in funding through its Commodity Credit Corp., which provides loans and financial payments to farmers.
