150 House lawmakers urge EPA to lower next year’s ethanol mandate

About 150 bipartisan House lawmakers have signed onto an effort to convince U.S. EPA to lower its target next year for conventional ethanol use. In a letter being sent to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, the lawmakers cite volatile corn prices and increased compliance costs for refiners as reasons for the agency to use its authority given by the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act to lower the corn ethanol portion of the renewable fuel standard. Court agrees to expedite refiner’s challenge to EPA renewable standards

Federal judges yesterday granted a refiner’s request to expedite its challenge to U.S. EPA’s renewable fuel standards. Monroe Energy LLC, which is a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines Inc., asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to hear and decide the case before next June — the deadline for refiners to comply with EPA’s required 16.55 billion-gallon biofuel requirement. Sportsmen leap into RFS debate over concerns about habitat, water quality

Increased demand for corn ethanol spurred by the renewable fuel standard, which mandates yearly increasing levels of biofuel use, has spurred conversion to cropland of resources vital to hunting and fishing, panelists said yesterday at a briefing organized by the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation.
