Farmers believe they can dodge climate risks, but they’re wary of government rules

Farmers and farm groups have usually been opposed to government climate policies. A new study finds they are not so much skeptics of climate change as they are about the rules that may come with them and how they might harm their business. A group of researchers at the University of California, Davis, surveyed 162 farmers in Yolo County, Calif., comparing what growers thought about climate change, their willingness to participate in government-led climate programs and their takes on four different environmental regulations passed in the last 25 years. Department provides $15.5M for advanced biofuels, electricity projects

The Agriculture Department announced the delivery today of $15.5 million to biofuel producers in the next-generation fuel sector. Announced at a biofuels industry conference in Omaha, Neb., the awards are going to 188 advanced biofuel producers under the Advanced Biofuel Payment Program. [ read more … ]

DOE’s $603M investment in biorefineries falls far short of goals — IG

The Department of Energy’s investment of $603 million in efforts to spur commercial-scale integrated biorefineries has failed to hit the mark, so the program won’t produce 100 million gallons of advanced biofuels by 2014 and is at risk of more wasteful spending, DOE’s inspector general said in a report released today.
