Neil Young fills up LincVolt, back from the dead, with cellulosic ethanol

Young recently showed off the LincVolt in Sioux Falls, SD, where the artist filled up on the biofuel, Domestic Fuel reports. Young touts the LincVolt’s ability to reduce emissions by 80 percent compared to a conventionally powered car. He said that the car is one way to draw attention to climate change. “It’s just not a fast moving subject,” he said. “It’s a slow moving big story. Florida Axes State Renewable Fuel Standard

Earlier this week, the Florida Legislature passed HB4001, a bill that repeals the state Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Senator Greg Evers was a huge supporter of the bill, that allows Florida consumers the ability to purchase gasoline that is ethanol free. [ read more … ]

Rain stops in the West, pours in the center of the country

As drought eases over the United States overall, indications of dryness are increasing in the West as the region exits the rainy season. Extreme drought, the second-highest classification for drought, has swept across New Mexico into Arizona, while severe drought has intensified across California, Nevada and Utah. Some areas received less than a third of their normal precipitation levels for this time of the year, said Eric Luebehusen, a meteorologist with the Agriculture Department’s Office of the Chief Scientist and author of this week’s U.S. Drought Monitor.
