Oil-and-gas lobby talks biofuel rule with White House, EPA, senior lawmakers

The head of a powerful oil industry lobbying group met with top White House officials and senior lawmakers Wednesday about stripping a federal biofuel rule. “We’re talking about the renewable fuel standard (RFS). It’s a hot topic,” American Petroleum Institute (API) chief executive Jack Gerard told reporters at the Capitol. “We’re just making some visits, making people understand the importance of repealing the RFS.” API wants to repeal the biofuel rule, which requires refiners to blend 36 billion gallons of biofuel into conventional petroleum by 2022. Oil industry presses White House, Congress to scrap RFS

Executives from 10 refining companies and two major oil industry groups met yesterday with Obama administration officials and members of Congress to urge them to set aside the renewable fuel standard biofuels mandate. American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Jack Gerard and American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers President Charles Drevna led the group at meetings aimed at rolling back the RFS mandate of blending 36 billion gallons of biofuel into gasoline by 2022. RFS Shown to Work Because It Makes Big Oil Nervous

How can we tell the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) is working? By how nervous it’s making the big oil companies. That was the message attendees at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference near Washington, D.C. heard. “We are disrupting an existing marketplace,” says Brooke Coleman, Executive Director of the Advanced Ethanol Council. “We are not social media.
