The Truth Behind High Gas Prices, in 60 Seconds

Fuels America has released a new video highlighting the truth behind high gas pricesand how renewable fuels can help. Many studies, including a report from the American Security Project, have shown that the country can’t drill its way out of high gas prices and vulnerability to global oil markets. In addition, recent International Energy Agency (IEA) data shows drilling will still leave us with oil that costs upwards of $215 per barrel. [ read more … ]

Iowa Senate Stands Firm on RFS

The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) today congratulated the Iowa Senate for voting unanimously to pass Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 5 (SCR 5) that urges the United States government to continue its commitment to energy independence and maintain its support of the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). SCR 5, in part, states: “The United States government is urged to renew its commitment to this nation’s energy security, move the United States toward greater energy independence and security as required by the federal Energy Independence and Security Act, and use all efforts to meet the highest possible renewable fuel volume requirements set forth in RFS2 in order to ensure that this nation achieves energy independence.” [ read more … ]

Renewable jet fuel key to compliance with Europe’s GHG rules — Vilsack

The five-year extension of the Agriculture Department’s “Farm to Fly” initiative will help airlines comply with international greenhouse gas caps, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said yesterday. The agreement between USDA and the Federal Aviation Administration is designed to promote biofuels in the aviation industry. The first phase of the effort ran from 2010 to 2012. Participants hope the effort will generate 1 billion gallons of renewable aviation fuels that can drop in existing engines by 2018. [ read more … ]

As fuel efficiency standards drive gasoline taxes down, who pays to fix the highways?

As the federal Highway Trust Fund inches closer to empty, toll operators are promoting user fees as the solution to America’s infrastructure woes. The federal gas tax, which supports the highway fund, hasn’t been raised since 1993. Meanwhile, vehicle fuel economy has continued to increase, spurred by market demand and new federal fuel efficiency standards. Collectively, these have kept tax revenue low while the need to repair the nation’s aging roadways has increased. [ read more … ]
