Nearly one year after the nation’s highest bench stunned the world by overturning 50 years of abortion rights, the nine most powerful jurists in the United States toppled environmental precedent in a ruling that wiped out protections for wetlands across the country. And it appears they’re still just getting started. “We’re not clarifying when we muck with over 50 years of understanding of how things work,” said Robin Kundis Craig, a law professor at the University of Southern California, of the court’s May ruling in Sackett v. Noem is investor in ethanol plant partnered with carbon pipeline company

Gov. Kristi Noem is an investor in an ethanol plant that’s partnered with a company proposing a controversial carbon dioxide pipeline. The ethanol plant is Granite Falls Energy in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Noem’s financial disclosures from her former service in Congress and her current time as governor reveal that she and her husband are investors in the plant. Summit Carbon Solutions, a company proposing a carbon pipeline through South Dakota, lists Granite Falls Energy as one of its partners.  [ read more … ]

Hackers already infiltrate EV chargers. It could only get worse.

With his electric Kia EV6 running low on power, Sky Malcolm pulled into a bank of fast-chargers near Terre Haute, Indiana, to plug in. As his car powered up, he peeked at nearby chargers. One in particular stood out. Instead of the businesslike welcome screen displayed on the other Electrify America units, this one featured a picture of President Biden pointing his finger, with an “I did that!” caption. It was the same meme the president’s critics started slapping on gas pumps as prices soared last year, cloned 20 times across the screen.  [ read more … ]
