By Mike DeBonis, Jeff Stein and Seung Min Kim, Washington Post  •    •  Posted December 2, 2020

The top Democratic congressional leaders on Wednesday embraced a $908 billion coronavirus relief framework — a massive concession meant to prod President Trump and Senate Republicans into accepting a compromise as covid cases spike and the economic recovery shows signs of faltering ahead of the holiday. And potentially building even more momentum behind the plan, at least two new Republican senators offered their own measured support for the idea. [ read more … ]

New Aid Package Pitched

By Chris Clayton, DTN Ag Policy Editor  •    •  Posted December 2, 2020

Looking to respond to the growing economic crisis facing the country from the COVID-19 pandemic, a bipartisan group of lawmakers in Congress on Tuesday announced a proposed coronavirus aid package costing $908 billion overall, including $26 billion for nutrition and agriculture. By Spencer Chase, Agri-Pulse  •    •  Posted December 2, 2020

Georgia Democrat David Scott cleared a major hurdle to becoming the next chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, installing new leadership for the committee as it prepares to begin work on a new farm bill. A Democratic steering committee chose Scott over California’s Jim Costa in a 32-19 vote Tuesday evening. The two were both vying for the position vacated by current committee Chair Collin Peterson’s unsuccessful effort to secure another term in Congress. Scott — if ultimately approved by the full House Democratic caucus — will take the gavel in January. [ read more … ]
