White House Open to Bigger Stimulus Bill as Mnuchin, Pelosi Talk

The White House shifted tack on Thursday, signaling that the administration is again leaning toward a large-scale stimulus bill after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed back on the idea of individual measures for parts of the economy hit by the Covid-19 crisis. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told Pelosi in a 40-minute call that President Donald Trump wants agreement on a comprehensive stimulus package, according to Drew Hammill, a Pelosi spokesman. U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue promoted biofuels and USDA’s investment in projects such as blender pumps during a series of events in Iowa and Minnesota on Thursday.
The official purpose of the events at an ethanol plant in Mason City and fuel stations in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Ankeny, Iowa, was to highlight $22 million in grants released by USDA in 14 states under the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program. The grants are among the first of up to $100 million the program will spend on projects such as helping fuel stations offset the costs of blender pumps and underground fuel tanks.

15 Iowa companies get USDA grants to expand ethanol sales

Fifteen Iowa companies were among those receiving grants Thursday to improve ethanol and biodiesel facilities to handle higher grades of the renewable fuels. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has invested $22 million in the grants, from a pot of $100 million in the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced.  [ read more … ]

‘Iowa’s good:’ Ernst, Naig talk biofuel advancements

A bill supporting infrastructure growth was signed into action by President Trump last month after Midwest lawmakers appealed to the administration on behalf of the farm industry. The expansion will make E15 gasoline available at nearly every gas pump in the country, replacing the E10 blend most state currently consume. “A lot of folks think you can just purchase these products anywhere, but you have to have the infrastructure,” Ernst said. “And part of that is to make sure that E15 can be delivered through the E10 pumps. Only in Iowa: Mason City ethanol plant will be home to the world’s biggest grain bin

Move over Meredith Willson — Mason City will soon have a new point of pride to challenge the “Music Man”: the world’s largest grain bin. The bin is under construction at Golden Grain Energy in Mason City, and will stand nearly 156 feet tall. But what’s really remarkable is its volume: It’s capable of holding 2.2 million bushels of corn, according to Sukup Manufacturing Co., the Sheffield company manufacturing the massive, metal structure.
