Penalty Flag Thrown on EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler

We’re just going to have to throw the penalty flag on EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler. The only real question is whether it’s for delay of game or intentional grounding. We might have to take a look at the replay again. Wheeler’s penalty could be upgraded to targeting. For crop farmers and the biofuels industry, the call is at least a personal foul at this point. Trump Administration still missing mark on biofuels

It was nearly a year ago when farmers’ cries started getting louder demanding that President Donald Trump and his Administration stand up for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and defend the interests of biofuels over big oil. Fast forward to today, and the biofuel industry has been struck with not only an extreme drop in fuel demand in 2020 but also ongoing uncertainty over the RFS.

 EPA’s online dashboard shows the agency has now received nearly 100 petitions for small refinery exemptions to the Renewable Fuel Standard mandates dating back to 2011. Since June, EPA has received two new petitions for each of 2011 and 2012, three new petitions for each of 2013, 2014 and 2015, plus one more for 2016. That brings the number of requests for the so-called gap year petitions to 65, and the total number of pending waiver requests to 98. [ read more … ]


Members of Congress Press Lighthizer on Brazilian Ethanol Trade

A group of federal lawmakers is asking United States’ lead trade representative to push Brazil to either eliminate its ethanol-import tariffs or face retaliation, in a letter sent to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on Thursday. Time is running out on Brazil’s current ethanol tariff on some U.S. ethanol imports and there is a pending threat to set a new tariff on all of those imports. [ read more … ]

Bipartisan House Coalition Joins White House, RFA in Demanding Level Playing Field with Brazil

With just two weeks remaining before Brazil is likely to impose a tariff of at least 20 percent on all fuel ethanol imports from the United States, a bipartisan coalition of House members has joined the effort to restore fair and equitable ethanol trade with Brazil. In a letter sent Thursday to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, 20 members of the House implored the Administration to ensure that “creating a level playing field for U.S. ethanol be a high priority during bilateral trade negotiations.” [ read more … ]
