NEWS UPDATE June 15, 2015

Colleagues,

Just a quick reminder that we’ve scheduled a conference call with USDA officials to discuss its recently announced $100 million funding for state blender pump installations for tomorrow, June 16 at 10CT, 11ET, 9MT, 8PT. Conference call number is 800-747-5150, access 3951076#

USDA has begun accepting funding applications. USDA will award these competitive grants, matched by states, to expand the infrastructure for distribution of higher ethanol fuel blends. States that offer funding equal to or greater than that provided by the federal government will receive higher consideration for grant funds. Private sector funding can be used as a match.

The funds must be used to pay a portion of the costs related to the installation of fuel pumps and related infrastructure dedicated to the distribution of higher ethanol blends. The matching contributions may be used for these items or for related costs such as additional infrastructure to support pumps, education, data collection, program evaluation, administrative costs and marketing.

As we’ve discussed, a regional and national marketing strategy overseen by the states with consistent messaging is vital to consumer acceptance of higher ethanol blends. We should consider whether a small portion of the funds awarded to the states should be set aside and used to develop and to coordinate a multi-state and national coordination and marketing plan in conjunction with the private sector.

Most of the information you need to begin your application has already been release and is attached. USDA grant details are be published in the Federal Register today. We’ll send you a link to the funding notice as soon as its available. USDA’s deadline for state funding applications is July 16, 2015.
