Letter to the Editor: Big Oil likes to spread lies about ethanol

The current attacks on the Renewable Fuel Standard and the ethanol industry are Big Oil’s attempt to make sure we don’t have options, as they continue to control their 100-year-old monopoly.
American ethanol has continued to prove itself as the fuel of the future. It burns clean and reduces greenhouse-gas emissions by more than 30 percent compared with gasoline, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory. Made from corn grown here in Ohio, American ethanol supports rural Ohio farms and businesses.
We need to demand the freedom to choose our fuel when filling up our cars. We cannot let the oil industry’s latest bogus advertisements pollute our choices. I ask for your continued support of the Renewable Fuel Standard. Seldom have we ever seen a policy actually work like it was supposed to. Let’s build on the success of the Renewable Fuel Standard, not abandon the benefits it provides for each and every one of us.
