House Republicans will use a pair of committee hearings this week — including an appearance by the top EPA air regulator — to push back on the Biden administration’s climate and environmental agenda.

Joseph Goffman, who leads the EPA Office of Air and Radiation, is the chief witness at a Wednesday hearing of the Oversight and Accountability Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs.

The panel asked Goffman to appear in May at a hearing about EPA regulations on greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks. He was unable to attend because of a scheduling conflict, EPA said at the time.

Wednesday’s hearing is intended to delve into the same subject.

“It is critical that we hear directly from the EPA how they developed these standards so that we can determine whether the U.S. has the necessary infrastructure, raw materials, and manufacturing capacity to comply with the EPA’s proposed rules and produce safe and affordable electric vehicles,” subcommittee Chair Pat Fallon (R-Texas) said in a statement.
