Green Plains earnings rise; strong 4th quarter expected

Omaha-based Green Plains Inc., a large maker of ethanol, reported improving earnings for the third quarter of this year when compared with the same quarter last year.

The company reported net income of $7.9 million, or 20 cents per diluted shared, compared with $6.2 million, or 16 cents per diluted share, for the same period in 2015.

Revenues were $841.9 million for the third quarter of 2016 compared with $742.8 million for the same period last year.

“Based on current markets, we expect a stronger fourth quarter,” said Todd Becker, president and chief executive officer.

Green Plains stock is up more than 13.5 percent this year, beating the broader stock market. The company’s stock closed at $26 a share Monday on the Nasdaq market. Earnings were reported after the bell.
