Around 100 people turned out for the groundbreaking of a new biorefinery plant in Grand forks this afternoon (Wed). The 80-thousand square foot facility will occupy eleven acres of land on the city’s north side. The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation has been working with developers on the project for about four years. When operational the plant will utilize agricultural byproducts to produce upwards of 16.5 million gallons of ethanol per year.

The property is located next to the rail tracks and south of the C-H-S terminal. The city of Grand Forks approved a five year declining tax exemption to help make the project happen. The plant and contents is expected to cost around 35 million dollars.
