General Motors and the Environmental Defense Fund on Monday released a set of recommendations for EPA emissions standards they say will speed the transition to zero-emission EVs and help eliminate tailpipe emissions.

For starters, the car giant and environmental group are urging EPA to propose Tier 4 standards that target NOx and particulate matter pollution for model year 2027 and beyond this fall and finalize them next year. They say EPA should extend them until at least 2032 and consider adopting them through 2035. That would lead to drastic emissions reduction and provide “a stable investment signal and regulatory certainty” for the industry.
