Within the letter, the groups applaud Trump’s commitment to the RFS during the campaign and note the biofuels industry shares his “enthusiasm for reinvigorating the economic powerhouse of America’s heartland.”
Members of Fuels America said they look forward to working with the Trump administration to ensure that homegrown renewable fuels, such as ethanol, continue to “serve as a source of economic growth in rural communities, a source of affordable fuel options for consumers, and a source of American strength against hostile nations overseas.”
Within the letter, the groups note that renewed efforts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to manipulate global energy prices serves as a reminder that the U.S. needs to harness its vast renewable resources. “The global market for oil is not free, and oil companies control the infrastructure that delivers renewable fuel to the pump,” the said. “The RFS corrects the imbalance to ensure competition among fuel producers and consumer choice.
The letter stresses that the biofuels industry has helped create much-needed jobs in communities left behind by other manufacturing industries while offering a critical market for the agriculture community. “Farm incomes have declined for three straight years, and a massive surplus of grain threatens to leave many farmers without a viable market for their products,” said the groups in the letter.
The letter points out that the RFS is a proven tool for promoting growth in the biofuels industry, stressing that biofuels currently provide approximately 10 percent of U.S. liquid fuels. In addition, the industry supports thousands of jobs.
Fuels America members who signed letter urge Trump to stand strong against those who seek to undermine the RFS, and offer his administration their full support in its continued efforts to growth the nation’s renewable fuels industry and create economic opportunities across the U.S.
