Trump issued a proclamation on March 19 acknowledging “the tremendous work ethanol, ingenuity, determination, and perseverance that define generations of American farmers.”
“Because of their efforts, the United States produces an abundant supply of food, feed, and fuel for a growing global population,” the proclamation said. “Our rich and abundant soil provides for more than just sustenance—it provides a beautiful and bountiful way of life for millions of Americans.”
Perdue released a video celebrating America’s agriculture community to recognize the day. “For the past 45 years, National Ag Day has played a key role in helping people understand where their food and fiber comes from and how important agriculture is to our national economy,” he said. “Our farmers, ranchers, foresters, and producers in America are feeding and clothing the world—and it’s important to never forget that. I am thrilled that we have a day, really a whole week, where we can celebrate the bounty of the American harvest.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv1DJkcuWLU&feature=youtu.be
The Renewable Fuels Association called farmers “the backbone of our country and our industry. “American farmers are the foundation for the renewable fuels industry, producing a robust sustainable feedstock used to create clean, green, homegrown biofuels,” said Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the RFA. “Our industry is proud to contribute to the success of rural communities. In fact, ethanol production under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) has provided a $14.1 billion boost in value of the U.S. farm sector in 2015 or $6,800 per American farm. In addition, the biofuels industry supported nearly 360,000 jobs last year and displaced a substantial amount of imported crude oil, bringing high-paying jobs to rural communities across the nation. We look forward to continuing our work together to promote this important value-added market.”
Growth Energy has also spoken out to thank America’s farmers. “There has never been a more important time to reinforce rural America’s role in producing clean energy. Biofuels provide a vital growth market for America’s vast agricultural output,” said Emily Skor, CEO of Growth Energy. “The Renewable Fuel Standard has revitalized rural America, and Growth Energy is committed to ensuring this policy remains strong as we also work toward other pro-growth policies like securing a fix to the outdated Reid Vapor Pressure restrictions so that states can sell fuel with higher blends of ethanol, like E15, year-round.”
