EPA published yesterday guidance for vehicle manufacturers establishing the E85 usage weighting factor under the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for cars and light trucks for model years 2016-2018. This weighting factor will be used to calculate real world emissions for flex fuel vehicles (FFV) based on actual CO2 tailpipe emissions and projected real-world fuel use of E85 and gasoline over the life of the vehicle.  Volkswagen had requested a larger  FFV incentive. EPA’s rules effectively reduces by 30 percent the proposed FFV incentive that EPA proposed well over a year ago.   EPA’s guidance letter is available here.
