The U.S. EPA has published renewable identification number (RIN) data for April, reporting more than 1.511 billion RINs were generated during the month, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to nearly 5.88 billion RINs.

Nearly 16.66 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 46.81 million. Approximately 1.38 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol so far this year, along with 27.23 million for renewable compressed natural gas and 20.03 million for renewable liquefied natural gas. More than 43.9 million D3 cellulosic RINs have been generated domestically this year, with 4.74 million generated by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in April. The year-to-date net total is 114,835 RINs, with all 114,835 of those RINs generated in March by importers for cellulosic heating oil.

More than 4.56 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of year to 17.25 million. More than 8.43 million D5 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 5.81 million generated for naptha, 662,121 generated for heating oil, and 2.35 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. So far this year, all D5 RINs have been generated domestically.

More than 1.19 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 4.86 billion. The majority, 4.76 billion, have been generated for ethanol, with 9.32 million generated for biodiesel and 102.12 generated for nonester renewable diesel. So far this year, 4.75 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 12.6 million generated by importers and 102.12 million generated by foreign entities.

Approximately 299.32 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 949.63 million. Most, 766.45 million, were generated for biodiesel, with 183.19 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 414,025 generated for renewable jet fuel. To date, 754.98 million D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 108.54 generated by importers and 86.522 million generated by foreign entities.

As of the close of April, the EPA estimates 213.74 million RINs have been retired so far this year, with 318.03 million locked and available and 5.35 billion unlocked and available.
