D3 RINs generation for cellulosic biofuel totaled 15.9 million RINs in February, compared with 459,000 reported for January. Broken down by fuel type for the first two months of the year, that was 357,000 D3 RINs for cellulosic ethanol, 9.79 million for renewable CNG and 7.2 million for LNG.
Advanced biofuel, D5 RINs generated in February totaled 5.3 million, compared with 5.7 million in January. Broken down by fuel type for the first two months of the year, D5 RINs generated for ethanol totaled 4.1 million, naptha 5 million, non-ester renewable diesel at 1.4 million, renewable jet fuel 641,000 and heating oil 477,000. Biomass-based diesel generated 293 million D4 RINs for biodiesel and 117 million for non-ester renewable diesel for the first two months of the year.
Net RINs generated for the year-to-date, after error corrections, total 2.4 billion for D6 RINS. EPA reports 2.37 billion as domestic, 1.91 million as generated by importers and 41.4 million generated by foreign producers. Advanced biofuel, D5 RINs show no importer or foreign generation, while cellulosic D3 RINs show 1.75 million being generated by importers.
EPA’s table reporting available RINs to date show that of the 2.4 billion D6 RINS generated for the year, 51 million have been separated and retired and another 3.8 million assigned and retired. Of the remaining RINs, the largest category is separated and unlocked RINs totaling 1.58 billion.
