President Biden wants electric vehicles to be at the center of U.S. competition with China. China has produced more than twice the number of EVs as American manufacturers in the last decade, according to the White House. Now, Biden wants the United States to become a world leader by looking to its past, where union laborers in Detroit car factories cranked out the vehicles that dominated American roads. Biden traveled to Michigan to mark the grand opening of General Motors Co.’s Factory Zero, which is the automaker’s first all-electric vehicle assembly plant.
