The Biden administration has developed a “grand challenge” to boost biofuel output for the production of SAF, necessary to meet Biden’s goal of a net-zero carbon emissions aviation sector by 2050. … The ethanol sector is keen to establish corn ethanol as an approved feedstock for SAF production. Speaking to reporters Sept. 13, Geoff Cooper, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), said that under the tax credit for SAF provided by the IRA, “we see huge opportunity for ethanol.” Efforts to convert first-generation ethanol biorefineries to SAF production are already underway, Cooper said.
