The average U.S. ethanol margin in the week ended Friday nearly doubled from the prior week, while the average biodiesel margin fell further into the red, Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development (CARD) said on Monday. The school said the average return over operating costs last week at a typical dry-mill ethanol plant was 50.29cts, up 25cts from the 25.2cts week reported in the week that ended May 7. CARD said the average Iowa ethanol price last week rose 10cts to $2.53/gal, up $1.50 from a year ago. Spot ethanol prices have been rising in recent weeks on sharp gains in the corn market and some unease over supply.
